Charleston’s Old Exchange Building: Witness to American History

The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon in Charleston, South Carolina, is one of the great buildings of colonial America. Having served as city hall, customhouse, post office and prison; as the British headquarters during the occupation of Charles Town; and site for slave trading and commerce, the Exchange as been an eyewitness to America’s history.

“In dramatic vignettes Miller and Andrus interpret not just the history of one of American’s grand buildings-but also the history of one of America’s grand cities. The building serves as a window affording us grand and glorious glimpses of Charleston’s past. Recommended!”
